minutes away —Tattoo Shop near King West
King West — the Wellington Place stretch of restaurants, theatres and glass towers — is one of the busiest corners of the city. Yes Electric Tattoo isn't on King itself; we're a short walk north at 499 Queen St W in Queen West, open noon to midnight every day, walk-ins welcome.
A short walk north of King Street
King West runs from the financial core out past Bathurst, with Wellington Place at its heart — roughly University Avenue to Strachan, between Wellington Street West and Richmond. From that stretch, our studio is genuinely close: Queen Street sits just a few blocks north of King, so from most of the district you're looking at a short walk, or one quick stop on the 504 King streetcar and a stroll up to Queen. If you're near St. Andrew station over on University, it's an easy surface walk west and north; from the Spadina end, Queen is a straight shot up.
You can also catch the 501 Queen streetcar, which passes right in front of 499 Queen St W, so there's almost always a low-effort way over. That closeness makes us an easy add-on to a King West plan — dinner, a show at the Royal Alex, a workout — and then a stop for tattoos, piercings, the barber or tooth gems before or after. To skip any wait, book or walk in ahead of time.
Built for a late-night neighbourhood
King West is Toronto's restaurant and nightlife spine — one of the densest dining corridors in the country, running past long-standing rooms like Le Sélect Bistro on Wellington and anchored culturally by the TIFF Bell Lightbox and, a few steps up in the Theatre District, the Royal Alexandra and Princess of Wales theatres. It's a part of town that stays awake, and so do we: open noon to midnight, seven days a week.
That means a small tattoo after a late dinner, a piercing before a night out, or a fresh cut before an event are all realistically on the table — you're not boxed in by an early-evening close the way you'd be at most shops. Weekends especially, we get people finishing dinner nearby and wandering up on a whim. If you want a specific look, our styles guide and gallery are worth a scroll before you head over so you arrive with a clearer idea.
For the King West crowd
The district pulls a real mix — finance and creative professionals, theatre and TIFF crowds, and condo residents in the converted warehouses along Wellington and around heritage pockets like the 28 Second Empire row cottages on Draper Street, one of the oldest surviving streetscapes in the area. There's a lot of walking-around energy near St. Andrew's Playground and Metro Hall too. Whoever you are, the studio experience is the same: no pressure, a real consult, and artists who'll help you land on something you'll actually want in ten years rather than something that looked good for a weekend.
Some of the ways King West clients tend to use us:
- First tattoo — a small, considered piece with plenty of time to ask questions before anything starts.
- Piercings — everything from lobes to curated ear projects, with proper studio jewellery and clear aftercare. See piercings.
- Event-ready — a barber cut or a subtle tooth gem before a big King West night out.
- Bigger projects — booking a consult and a longer sitting for a sleeve or back piece you've been planning.
Honest on pricing and hours
We don't post flat prices because no two tattoos or piercings are the same — size, placement and detail all move the number. The straight answer is to send your idea through book or drop in for a free consult and we'll give you a real quote. And to be clear, we're one studio at 499 Queen St W; we don't have a King West branch — we're just the closest good shop, minutes north.
Walk-ins are welcome all day and late into the night. If you want a particular artist or a longer sitting held, booking ahead is the safe move.
How a first visit runs
King West moves quickly, so we keep the process straightforward. You come in with an idea — a reference, a rough sketch, or just a description — and we start with a consult: size, placement, how the piece will sit and age, and a real quote before anything begins. No pressure to commit on the spot. If you're pairing it with a night out, that upfront conversation means no surprises later.
For piercings we go through jewellery and aftercare first, and everything runs on clean, single-use setups as a matter of course. Not sure which direction to take a design? The styles guide breaks down the options, and the gallery shows what our team actually produces. When you're ready, book or walk in — the late hours mean there's almost always a window that fits a King West evening.
Nearby if you're wandering
King West blends into the rest of the west end fast. Our block is minutes from the Entertainment District to the east and a short walk from Kensington Market and Chinatown. Keep heading west on Queen and you'll hit Trinity Bellwoods — plenty to make a full outing of your visit.
Coming from King West? Good to know
How far is Yes Electric from King West?
We're at 499 Queen St W, just a few blocks north of King Street — a short walk from most of Wellington Place, or one quick stop on the 504 King plus a stroll up to Queen. We're not a King West location; we're the nearby Queen West studio.
Can I walk there?
For most of King West, yes — Queen sits only a few blocks north of King, so it's an easy walk. From further east near St. Andrew station, a short surface walk or a stop on the 504 King does it.
Do you take walk-ins or should I book?
Both. Walk-ins are welcome every day, noon to midnight. For a specific artist, a bigger tattoo or a piercing curation, book so we can hold the chair.
How late are you open?
Noon to midnight, seven days a week — which pairs nicely with King West's late dinners, shows and nights out.
What will it cost?
It varies by size, placement and detail, so we quote per idea instead of posting flat rates. Send your concept through book or come in for a free consult for a real number.
Is it just tattoos?
No — we also do piercings, barber services and tooth gems, so one short trip north from King can cover a few things at once.
